Physical therapy is the treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods, rather than by the use of drugs or surgery. Since it serves as a potential alternative to a procedure, this practice is often sought out by several patients. There are six different types of physical therapy near Island Park:
  • Pediatric.
  • Geriatric.
  • Orthopedic.
  • Cardiovascular and Pulmonary.
  • Vestibular Rehabilitation.
  • Neurological.

Pediatric:
Pediatric physical therapy is for patients typically under the age of eighteen and it helps improve a child’s range of motion, strength, flexibility, and movement patterns. Children are treated for a variety of reasons, but the most common tend to include bone or muscle issues, sports injuries, or genetic, brain, spine, or nerve disorders.

Geriatric:
Geriatric physical therapy for older patients impacted by the effects of aging. This can help treat patients with arthritis, cancer, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, joint replacement, or balance disorders. Geriatric physical therapy near Island Park will help train patients to use their body safely and efficiently, helping them to avoid injury.

Orthopedic:
Orthopedic physical therapy is designed to help patients recover their muscle strength. This is common for people who have been injured or need to improve their strength after surgery.

Cardiovascular and Pulmonary:
Cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy is not as standard as the previously stated types. It is designed to build the independence of patients with heart or circulatory problems.

Vestibular Rehabilitation:
This type of physical therapy helps patients handle dilemmas with the inner ear. Some of the issues include chronic dizziness and vertigo. Vestibular rehabilitation will help patients improve their balance and help prevent future falls.

Neurological:
Most neurological disorders are chronic, but physical therapy near Island Park can help patients with this condition to improve their quality of life. This may help people impacted by spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, or other injuries that affect the brain and spinal cord.

What Can Patients Do?
The Physical Therapy Experience specializes in all six types of physical therapy. They have over twenty years of experience in physical therapy near Island Park and they focus on the patients’ long term goals and the health benefits that they can achieve. I had no clue that there are different types of physical therapy, and they have their own specialties such as dealing with cardiovascular things or ones that help you regain your muscle strength. My brother plans to start his training regimen next week, but the idea of him getting injured scares him. I'll recommend that he visit a physical therapist if ever that happens.
