What are Trigger Points?

Well first off we should figure out what exactly these trigger points are. They are the irritable spots of muscle that are very sensitive. For some reason, it is not known how these bundles of muscles get turned on and the pain never seems to go away. When you pull the trigger of a gun it fires a bullet that travels and causes pain at a distant target site. Just like when you press down on a trigger point muscle it sends pain to some other site far away within the body. With that said, a headache might be caused by a trigger point in the side of the neck. The pain caused by trigger points are often deep that could occur when resting or only when the body is moving. This pain can be either a slight discomfort or be incapacitating.

How to Treat Trigger Points?

The best way to combat these trigger points is with trigger point therapy. This technique is used by many physical therapists, it is done by applying pressure to the trigger point and increasing the pressure as the trigger point releases and softens. Then once the trigger point is released the muscle must be moved by stretching it throughout its full range of motion. There are many different techniques and our skilled team at The Physical Therapy Experience in Oceanside or Smithtown will work with you to find the right treatment for your pain. When it comes to physical therapy in Oceanside, there are a lot of choices and we want to be your number one.
