With the warmer weather approaching, it comes time for the spring sports season. If your child will be participating in spring sports this year, and you are looking for physical therapy near Kings Park who can help them with any pain they have, The Physical Therapy Experience is here for you and can treat you today! We will share with you the necessary safety tips to know before the season starts.

Whether your child participates in baseball, softball, lacrosse, or track, injuries are almost inevitable. Thankfully, at The Physical Therapy Experience, we will tell you what you can do to stay safe. Some of the most common injuries include concussions and ACL tears, both of which can be very serious if left untreated. Have a talk with your child about concussions, how serious they can be, and why they should be reported if they notice some the following symptoms:

  • Headache or feeling of pressure in the head
  • Temporary loss of consciousness
  • Amnesia
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Slurred speech

ACL tears are extremely serious injuries and they can cause some serious damage to one’s knee if left untreated. The symptoms should be easy to detect, as they can be very painful:

  • Discomfort while walking
  • Pain and swelling within 24 hours of injury
  • Tenderness along joint line
  • Loss of range of motion

These types of injuries are especially common in athletes who run a lot, including track athletes, lacrosse players, soccer players, and tennis players. Our physical therapy near Kings Park can treat any of these injuries should your child sustain one.

At The Physical Therapy Experience, we recommend our young athletes to do some of the following to ensure a safe spring season.

  • Get plenty of sleep, and do not skip meals.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Listen to your body - try not to push yourself too hard. Always know when to stop.
  • Stay conditioned throughout the year.
  • Seek help right away if you believe you have suffered an injury, otherwise it could become more serious.

We know that sports are meant to be fun, but they can be even more enjoyable as long as everybody is safe. Go over these safety tips with your child, and tell them about the importance of reporting an injury. Our physical therapy near Kings Park believe that safety is the most important part of playing sports, and we care about your child’s health and interests. So, listening to these tips should help them in regards to staying safe and in shape throughout the season. Do you want to be a part of The Physical Therapy Experience?
